Mentoring Makes a Difference!
Have you ever considered being a mentor?
Afraid that you couldn't be a mentor, nonsense! Everyone has the potential to share their life experiences with another person who is looking for guidance. A mentor is defined as a wise teacher or counselor. The main focus is sharing life experiences, such as finding a job, buying a house, or parenting. WCP families always benefit from extra support and guidance as changes occur in their lives and as they work to become self-sufficient.
One resident said, "Having a mentor really has helped me get my life going in the right direction. Because of her, I always have someone to listen to my ideas, and help lead me in the right direction."
This is an experience that you don't want to miss! Volunteering is another option that could add years to your life. According to a study at the University of Michigan, people who volunteer at least 45 minutes a week, live eight years longer than those who don't. There are many opportunities at Wilson Commencement Park, including reading to children through WCP's Special Friends Reading Circle, teaching residents how to use computers, or doing light office or data entry work.
