"Iris Banister to lead Rochester Children's Zone"

Iris Banister is the Rochester Children's Zone first executive director, and is stepping down as executive director of Wilson Commencement Park.

The Rochester Children's Zone is a concept that in part replicates that of the Harlem Children's Zone, which targeted a large area of central Harlem and focused on health care, education and other services to needy families and children.

Amongst her many accomplishments as executive director of Wilson Commencement Park, Mrs. Banister successfully realized the expansion of the park. In December 2007 Destiny, an 18-unit (8 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom) apartment building, opened its doors. Destiny houses and provides programming for troubled single parent families that are experiencing multiple problems, and have special needs.

Sean Tracy-Hamilton (Director of Early Learning Center Operations) has been appointed by the Board of Directors as Wilson Commencement Park interim executive director.
