Wilson Commencement Park can't do it without you.
WCP benefits from support of people like you. Annually, more than 200 volunteers offer their time, talents, expertise, ideas, donations, business support, and financial assistance on behalf of Wilson Commencement Park.
You can make a difference. Here are just a few of the many ways you can help Wilson Commencement Park:
Furnish A Future.
Please consider taking this wonderful opportunity to furnish an apartment to help a family to situate themselves in the initial process of overcoming the vicious cycle of poverty and a variety of social issues which destabilize a family. By donating the purchase price of furnishings for a two or three bedroom apartment in Destiny at Wilson Commencement Park (Destiny@WCP), you will be providing the first basic and important step for a family; a well furnished warm safe place that they can be proud to call home for the duration of time that the family will be with us. Donating the purchase price of an apartment or individual rooms removes the burden from the family of trying to secure and purchase furnishings for an apartment and allows them to immediately be able to concentrate on the variety of programs designed to raise the standard of living for them and their children.
The cost to furnish a 2-Bedroom Apartment which includes: Living room, Dining Area, Master bedroom, Child's bedroom and a Bathroom is $1,200.
The cost to furnish a 3-Bedroom Apartment which includes: Living room, Dining Area, Master bedroom, 2 Children's bedrooms or nursery and a Bathroom is $1,500.
- Share your keys to career success by becoming a mentor. Help a new employee focus on a career goal and find strategies to achieve it.
- Volunteer to read to children through WCP's Special Friends Reading Circle. Teach children in the Early Learning Center how to use a computer, paint, dance, or plant a garden.
- Organize friends or business colleagues to volunteer at WCP for a day. WCP has dozens of volunteer activities perfect for groups.
- Host or facilitate an adult evening educational program. Use your knowledge of money, management, parenting, self-esteem, public speaking, conflict or anger management, or any other life skill to help others. Become a panelist or presenter.
- Invite WCP clients into your workplace to find out for themselves what others do for a living, so that they are better prepared to make realistic career choices for themselves. Arrange a visit or shadowing experience. Or speak informally to ELC children about your career, to help them learn about future career options.
- Help in the ELC's Library and Resource Center to prepare books for circulation or as a volunteer librarian.
- Donate gifts for Santa's Toy Shop.
- Donate gently used professional or children's clothing, household goods, or computers. WCP residents often need what you no longer can use. (Please call first if your donation is large.)
- Make a gift of professional services. A dental practice could offer free checkups, for example.
- Find out if your company, or someone you know, has job openings or can offer a job shadowing experience.
- Serve on one of the WCP's committees or help with a special event.
- Become a donor. WCP accepts contributions by check, Visa or Master Card. Designate Wilson Commencement Park as the beneficiary of your United Way donation (Agency ID #1618).
- Become a sponsor for one of our special events. Please visit the events page for information on our Sponsorship programs.
- Use GoodSearch.com as your main search engine. You will be supporting your favorite cause at no cost. The money comes from advertisers. When you go to the site, go to the tab that asks what charity you would like to support and choose Wilson Commencement Park.
