Wilson Commencement Park was established in 1991 by the Board of Directors of the Marie C. and Joseph C. Wilson Foundation. They envisioned an attractive, affordable and secure residential community where single parents from the lowest income areas of Rochester could finish high school, receive vocational training, find employment and learn important life skills to become financially independent and self-sufficient. In addition to its residences, WCP established an accredited Early Learning Center offering pre-kindergarten and daycare programs for 150 resident and community-based children, ages 6 weeks to 12 years. In 2007, 18 additional apartment units called Destiny were erected within the WCP infrastructure, making a total of 68 residences.
