A Resident's Story
Dalita
Dalita Davis is a graduate of Wilson Commencement Park. Dalita and her daughter Jabriyah lived at the park form 1996-1998. To raise her daughter, Dalita had dropped out of college when she first came to Wilson Commencement Park, and achieving her goals seemed impossible. Dalita, who now lives in Georgia, remembers how Wilson Commencement Park provided her with a strong foundation for her future.
Since graduating from Wilson Commencement Park she has accomplished many things in her life. In 1998 Dalita graduated from MCC with an Associates Degree, and graduated in May 2000 from the University of Rochester with a Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing. She worked as a nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital for 2 years before working as a travel nurse. Now Dalita calls Atlanta, Georgia home.
Dalita’s most recent accomplishments include earning her Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) in December 2006. In fall of 2008 she will be starting a Doctoral program in Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia. Dalita currently works as a Clinical Educator for the Children’s Heathcare of Atlanta. She also holds a part-time position as Clinical Instructor for Clayton State University, where she teaches Pediatrics to BSN nursing students.
Dalita in her own words:
“I am so grateful to Wilson Commencement Park for providing me with a safe, nurturing environment. I can still remember all the weekly and monthly meetings that were organized to keep the residents focused and motivated to achieve our goals. I can definitely attest to the success of the program. I have been fortunate enough to accomplish all of the goals I set in motion while at WCP. My determination to succeed and support from the staff at WCP definitely made a difference in my life. I hope that I can be a source of inspiration for many of the young ladies who come through the doors of WCP in the future.”
